In math, Brenden continues to learn about division. He's been using the blocks a lot more, so I had him rewatch the video to hopefully jog his memory of how it works. Other than that, it's going really well. He still understands what he's doing, even if he prefers the use of the blocks.

In English, he did his narrations and reading. Also, someone gave me the brilliant idea to have him type his dictation, copywork, or narrations of the day as typing practice. This is good because our Typer Island subscription ran out and I was looking for ways to save money.

In history, he continues to learn about Thomas Jefferson. He's also learning about the signing of the constitution.

He didn't do French this week.

MALCOLM

Malcolm continues to fly through math with ease. We're almost to the end of addition problems and he can easily figure those out in head without much thought. He's even started helping Harper with hers.

In English, we learned about the hard and soft G, the hard and soft C, two, too, to, CK words that change to KE and how that changes the sound of the vowel, long u, a, e, i, o words.

Malcolm did not do history this week.

Malcolm went to tumbling this week. He did the same four rotations.

In math this week, Brenden worked on lesson 18. He learned how to divide with a remainder and how to check the answer by multiplying upside down. It was new information to me, but it's supposed to emphasize where the numbers are coming from when you divide and subtract.

For English, he read more books. He read all the books from Malcolm's Book Shark level.

In history, he did all his reading. He started reading about Thomas Jefferson this week.

He did not do French.

He did not do engineering.

He did spend a lot of time outside (a miracle for him) and we did yardwork. We learned an awful lot about nature this week.

MALCOLM

In math this week, his lesson was on the addition facts that equal 9. He did well in this lesson and didn't have any trouble understanding it.

In English this week, he did review in OPGTR and he learned the long O sound with a silent E. We also read the Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-winkle, A Bird Came Down the Walk, The Ass and His Driver.

In history, we're learning about Ancient Egypt. We're learning about their farming practices, their cities, their temples. He likes looking at all the pictures and reading the captions, but he says he doesn't like anything else. This is untrue, he likes more than he thinks he does, but all the attention he's paying.

He went to tumbling this week. He did all the regular rotations.

He did not do engineering this week.

We spent a lot of time outside doing yardwork. He was probably my biggest helper with weeding. He got his little trowel and tried helping me dig up all the dandelions. They are massive, so he didn't actually help all that much, but he sure tried his best, which is the important part.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06544087621043452417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4924693455794826115.post-62500162646650464552016-05-14T11:10:00.001-07:002016-05-14T11:10:22.651-07:00April 18-22This was Grammy's last week here. The kids spent a lot of time reading and playing with her, so there was less formal school and more relaxed and fun learning.
BRENDEN

This week in math, Brenden took his lesson 17 test.

In English, Brenden read a bunch of books from the library. His favorite is Foxtrot comics, his second favorite is Calvin and Hobbes.

This week in English, we read The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, Kind Moon, The Dog, The Cox, and The Fox. Malcolm also did his copy work and reading lessons.

In math, he took his test from lesson 15. And because I discovered that lesson 14 was incomplete, I had him do that one too. He got all the questions right.

BRENDEN
Today in math, Brenden took his lesson 16 test. Lesson 16 was about doing division problems with remainders. Brenden got all those problems right, but he missed a few addition and subtraction problems.

In grammar, he reviewed how to diagram all four kinds of sentences. He also learned how to punctuate direct quotations at the beginning of sentences. He had to copy many of these kinds of sentences. In writing, he had to dictate a sentence with a direct quotation. In spelling, his list had "oo" words. He got them all correct on the pretest, except "goodness."

He did his history reading on his own. I'm not exactly sure what it was about. He also practiced his piano.

He didn't do French this week.

He didn't do engineering this week.

He had his SAGE test this week.

MALCOLM
In math, Malcolm started a new lesson. He's learning which addition facts add up to equal 10.

In reading lessons, he practiced words that have the long I sound. We also read the "Jabberwocky" poem. We're trying a sample of a new English curricula called "English Lessons Through Literature." For it, we read The Tale of Peter Rabbit and did a copywork sentence from it. Then we read an Aesop Fable, The Wolf and The Kid. Malcolm said both stories would be boring, but at the end, he loved them both.

In history, we read from the Usborne Time Traveler's Book about how the Ancient Egyptians used the Nile for farming. We also learned how they stored water to make sure they had enough to last all year. Malcolm keeps thinking he doesn't like history, because he didn't like one of the history books, but this one held his interest and he kept looking at all the pictures and asking a lot of questions.

He went to tumbling this week. Luckily my mom was here and able to take him, because Brenden and I were still at his SAGE test. I'm assuming his did his regular rotations.

He didn't do engineering this week. Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06544087621043452417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4924693455794826115.post-70656385010674860322016-04-11T18:19:00.000-07:002016-04-11T18:19:11.312-07:00March 28-April 1BRENDEN
This week in math, Brenden started division problems with remainders. We couldn't find the plug for the DVD player, which was dead, so I had to teach him myself. I'm not sure I did it the best way, but we used the blocks and he understood it. He's using the blocks for every single problem, so this lesson will take us a bit.

In English, he learned "no" adverbs and he learned how to diagram contractions. He also learned how to punctuate direct quotations at the end of sentences. He did his narrations and copywork.

MALCOLM
This week was less formal for Malcolm as I was really not feeling well. I barely made it through a few lessons with Brenden before I fell asleep. He spent hours each day reading books from the library.

The math he did was reading Life of Fred.

This week in math, Brenden did a different kind of standard and expanded notation than he's done before. He took his test and got 100%. He learned about vowel digraphs. In writing, he did his dictation, narration, and copywork. He did his spelling lists this week and got 100%.

He did his history reading, but I'm not sure what it was about. He was supposed to read part of Toliver's Secret, but he enjoyed it so much, he just went and read the whole thing.
MALCOLM
In math this week, Malcolm worked on his doubles addition facts. In reading he worked on words with the long E sound. He did his copywork and did a good job on them.

In math this week, he reviewed numbers in standard notation and converting them to the more drawn out notation. He then had to convert back. He also had to practice division problems where once he found the quotient, he had to multiply it by the original number, write it underneath, and subtract it from the answer. The answer was always zero, but I'm pretty sure it's getting him ready to do division problems with a remainder.

In history, he did most of his reading. At the end of the week, he'd lost his Beginner's American History book. I'd assigned him only part of the Om-Kas-Toe book, but he enjoyed it so much, he ended up reading the whole thing.

In English, he did his copywork. He did one review lesson in spelling and got to a new lesson, which was about adding endings to base words. He did a narration about spiders and then had to copy what I'd written.
This week in math, Brenden reread all the Life of Fred elementary books. He was working through them so enthusiastically, I didn't want to take him away and make him do MUS. I think he gets more learning when it's self-motivated learning.

In history, Brenden caught up on all his history reading. He remembers that the revolutionary war lasted more than 8 years and that it was the longest lasting American declared war ever.

In English, he did his copywork, narrations, and dictations. He also read a lot of books from the library.
MALCOLM

In history this week, we caught up on our history reading. Malcolm sprained his ankle on Thursday evening, so he sat for a long time on Friday while I read everything to him.

PE-Malcolm didn't go to PE this week because of his sprained ankle. He ended up not walking on it until Sunday evening.

Math-in math, Malcolm finished his lesson on adding doubles.

English-For reading this week, instead of doing OPGTR lessons, I let him read to me out of readers from the library. He also did his copywork. He still sometimes wants to start his letters on the bottom line, so I have to make him start at the proper place.
He also learned the difference tenses in which those endings are required. In grammar, he learned about conjuctions and how to diagram a series. He also did his dictations, copywork, and narrations.

Math-Brenden is learning how to find the area of a trapezoid. He also started playing around with using the blocks to find averages. It's a bit complicated to describe, but he substitutes the smaller blocks for an equal number of larger blocks and rearranges them until they form a square. He saw Mr. Demme doing it to find the averages and is now doing it for all division problems, even the ones he already knows. It's taking a lot longer, but I think it'll come in handy later when he needs to learn algebra (I once attended a workshop taught by Mr. Demme and knows how he'll use the blocks for algebra)

History-In history this week, Brenden worked on catching up in his reading. I wrote the assignments out for him. I know he's caught up in three books, I think he still has more to catch up on. Once he's caught up, he should be at the end of the Revolutionary War (approximately).

French-Brenden did not do French this week.

Engineering-Brenden did not build anything with the kit, but he's still been building a lot of things with Legos. He even went to Lego club at the Springville Library.

MALCOLM

English-This week in reading, Malcolm learned how to read words with the silent E at the end of the world. He's doing ok, but is learning he needs to pay closer attention to make sure he's saying it accurately. He'll get there. He's also doing handwriting with copywork and is learning to pay attention to how he forms letters.

Math-Malcolm took a unit test and did well. He's also learning the double addition facts (ie 3+3, 4+4, etc).

History-Malcolm did not do history this week.

Engineering-Malcolm did not build with his engineering set, but continued to build spaceships out of Legos.

PE-Malcolm went to PE at UVU and went to tumbling class. Math-Brenden learned how to find the mean average. It was easy for him, since he'd already learned it from a Life of Fred book awhile ago. MUS doesn't call it the mean average though, they just call it "the average". Brenden was shocked they didn't median and mode averages too.
English-Brenden learned how to add "ED" endings to words. He did his copywork, narrations, and dictations, as well.
History-Brenden did not do history this week.
French-Brenden did not do French this week.
Engineering-Brenden did not do engineering this week (at least with the engineering set. He's been building a bunch of stuff with Legos. Swords, cars, spaceships)

MALCOLM
Math-Malcolm reviewed circles and triangles. It was really easy for him. Go figure.
English-Malcolm started reading Charlotte's Web aloud to me. Apparently it's still his favorite book and he's getting really good at reading. He also did copywork and practiced his handwriting. I'm making very sure that he uses the capitals, punctuation, and lower-case letters correctly (he often uses random capital letters in the middle of words. I'm trying to help that habit break.)
History-Malcolm did not do history this week.
PE-Malcolm did not go to tumbling this week, but he did go to PE at UVU. They worked on hitting balloons and balls with paddles.
Engineering-Malcolm did not build anything with the engineering set, but he did build a lot of things with Legos. This kid is ridiculously talented at building things, Legos are no exception. He made a really complex plane that even baffled me. This week in math, Brenden learned how to find the area of a triangle. Dad pointed out that you can only find it out when you know the 90 degree height. Or something like that. Brenden got all the answers correct and understood how to do it, but I'd forgotten that you can only do it when you know the height. Corey was reminding me of trigonometry. *shudder*
This week in math, Brenden learned his 9 division facts. Other than a few of the ones in the middle, he didn't struggle with it. Just took awhile to think of the correct answer.

This week in spelling, Brenden's lesson was on words with consonant clusters. He also did his narrations, dictations, and copywork.

He did not do French this week.

Malcolm

In English this week, he learned digraph blends TCH, CH, SH, and SHR. He also did copywork. I am making sure he starts in the proper place
and goes the proper direction. I just printed off a pre-made sheet from
the internet for him to use.

In math this week, he learned his 1 addition facts and he learned about the commutative property. He understood these both very easily.
We baked (math), we wrote Christmas cards and letters to Santa (English), we build candy trains (engineering), they played out in the cold (PE), Malcolm went to tumbling, we learned about the true meaning of Christmas (history). Brenden didn't do French.

January 4-8

We didn't have school the first half of the week because I had the stomach flu.

In the second half of the week, Brenden did math review to refresh his memory from the break. Mostly he was doing the division facts he's already learned

In English, we reviewed prepositions again and he practiced finding them in sentences. He also did a few dictation sentences. In spelling, his lessons were on different consonant pairs.

In the second half of the week, I had to fight with Malcolm a lot. He was not wanting to do any school at all after playing the past two weeks. But I got him to do one page of math each day. He was working on problems where he had to figure out X plus what equals Y. He can easily do these, he just doesn't like to.

In English, he and Harper decided they wanted to learn cursive. He practiced a few letters. I had him do some practice from OPGTR, but just the rules and the words, not the sentences. He's already reading books and the sentences are too "boring" for him. I figure as long as we learn the rules and how to sound out words, it's ok if he reads on his own.

We didn't do history this week.

He went to PE and practiced the same stuff they do every week.

He didn't do engineering this week.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06544087621043452417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4924693455794826115.post-38150489155511730302016-01-18T19:08:00.002-08:002016-01-18T19:08:53.570-08:00December 7-11Brenden

This week in English, Brenden did a review lesson in spelling. He did Writing With Ease, learning about CS Lewis.

In math, he learned about parallel and perpendicular lines.

In history, he did his reading from The Cabin Faced West.

Brenden didn't do any French this week.
Malcolm

This week in math, Malcolm did more tally marks and review lessons.

In English, he practiced reading from OPGTR. We also started reading The Littles.

In history, I read him Little Pear and read from the Usborne Book of World History.

This week in math, Brenden continued to divide by 1 and 2. He took the test on that lesson and got 100%. His new lesson was learning to divide by 10, which was also really easy for him.

In English, he learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases. In writing, he did two dictations and one narration/dictation exercise. In spelling his lessons were on long o and u words, consonant blend words, and y words.

In history, I know he did his reading, but I'm not exactly sure what it was about. I know he read more in Johnny Tremain and started a new book, The Cabin Faced West. He did a lot of reading from Beginner's American History as well.

Brenden did French three days this week, the days we were at home. He does his French lessons in a different room while I work with Malcolm and Harper, so I don't know what he learned about.

Brenden did not work on engineering this week.

MALCOLM

Malcolm's new lesson in math this week was on tally marks. He learned to convert tally marks to our numeral system and vice versa. It was pretty easy for him.

Malcolm did reading lessons every day this week. I forgot to write down the word types he practiced. He also did a lot of reading to me. His new favorite book is Cat in the Hat. He also practiced writing letters.

In history, we learned about governments forming in Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, and Ancient China. We learned how some village leaders got along with their neighbors and how some didn't. We learned how some areas starting conquering their neighbors. We also started a book called Little Pear. It's about a Chinese family in olden days. The boy, Little Pear, gets into a lot of mischief. Hopefully it doesn't give Malcolm any ideas, but so far he's only asked about the candy stick since then. Malcolm wanted to know if it really existed.

In engineering, he built two pulley structures on his own. He invented them himself, I don't think he copied them out of the book.

In PE, he did more of the same. Trampoline and tumbling. Worked on handstands and cartwheels, etc.

So we only got a couple days of school done at the end of the week.

BRENDEN

In math, Brenden finished his last lesson in Gamma. He learned how many pounds are in a ton and how many feet are in a mile. He had to do word problems that used this information. He also started Delta. He's learning how to divide by 1 and 2.

In English, Brenden is working on a poem memorization. He's learning A Time to Talk by Robert Frost. He also did a narration of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In spelling, he did more words with the long a vowel sound.

In history, Brenden finished up the book about Benjamin Franklin. He also read part of Johnny Tremain. I was happy to discover that Johnny did eventually find a job, but that's about all Brenden told me about it. He also read his assigned section in Beginner's American History.

Brenden did do French two days, but I'm not sure what he learned or practiced.

Brenden didn't do anything for the engineering class.

MALCOLM

In math, Malcolm is learning how to solve algebra questions: "What plus two equals four?" He's doing really well with these types of questions; he doesn't even need to use blocks for them. He's also reviewing past lessons.

In English, Malcolm worked on writing letters to Santa and Grammy. He also did a reading lesson on SQUI words (eg squint and squid). He had a little problem adding extra letters in where they didn't belong but he did ok. We also read a chapter of The Paint Brush Kid.

In history, we read a chapter from A Child's History of the World. We learned about Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient India, and Ancient Egypt.

Malcolm went to tumbling. There's a new boy in the class and he and Malcolm were often messing around. Other than that, Malcolm did well.

English-In spelling, Brenden's lesson was on words that have soft and hard c and g sounds. He got all the words correct on the pretest and the test. Brenden also read a large number of Calvin and Hobbes books. That was pretty much all he got from the library.

Math-Brenden continues to get better at his multiplication tables by practicing with the Learning Wrap Ups everyday. In MUS, he's moved on to 3+ digit multiplication. He has no problems with this. We're nearly done with his Gamma book.

History-I had Brenden read from Johnny Tremain. This was the only history for the week.

Engineering- The boys played with the engineering set, but they didn't build one of the structures from the books. They just made up their own structures.

French-Brenden worked on French this week, but I don't know what the lessons were on. Dad (studied French in high school and lived in France for two years) helped him with his French this week.

MALCOLM

English-Malcolm read a lot of the Calvin and Hobbes books that Brenden got from the library. Sometimes they read together. Even though his reading ability has surpassed where we are in OPGTR, we're still continuing to make our way through. This week, his lessons were on words with SM, SP, SC, SK, SN, ST, BR, CR, and DR blends.

Math-I had Malcolm move on from the adding 100s lessons because those were too easy for him. He started a lesson on basic algebra that helps prepare them for subtraction. An example of the problem is "? (what) + 3 = 8" then he has to solve and find that ?=5. This type of problem is also really easy for him.

History-We learned about the first settlers and how the transition from hunter/gatherer to settlers was made. We learned about taming animals, building houses, crafts (spinning fibers, weaving, basket making), farming and how those skills helped improve life for settlers.

Engineering-He and Brenden played with the engineering set. It was just free play, they didn't build one of the structures from the books.

PE-Malcolm went to tumbling. He had a different teacher this week, one who demonstrated handstands and cartwheels and such. I think that helped Malcolm more. He made a lot of progress on his handstands this week.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06544087621043452417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4924693455794826115.post-39207833205157929852015-11-02T19:20:00.001-08:002015-11-02T19:20:22.656-08:0010/26-10/30This week we went to Yellowstone on our trip. We got to see a lot of cool things: buffalo, geysers, hot spring pools, etc.

We missed a day of formal school traveling back to Utah. We had a light rest of the week, because Grammy and Aunt Whitney were here and we had a lot of other field trips with them (movie theater, pumpkin patch, Trick or Treating at Daddy's work on Friday)

The rest of the week in math, Brenden did his lesson 26 test (writing out factors of numbers), reviewed his times tables with the multiplication wrap up, and started his new lesson (writing out numbers as words, learning how to say hundreds of millions and thousands. He also learned that 1 pound=16 ounces.)

In English, he diagrammed all four types of sentences. He finished up his spelling book with a review of his last few lessons and started his next level of spelling by reviewing simple words. I looked and the next lessons will be more difficult.

History: I didn't have him do.

Engineering: He built the wheels and axles sample car. He said it was fun because it wasn't too difficult to build.

French: I didn't have him do.

Malcolm
Math: He started his new lesson on how to add hundreds. It wasn't difficult for him.

English: In reading, he learned words with SC, SK, SN, and ST blends. Learning them wasn't very hard, I'm pretty sure his ability in reading is beyond where he is in OPGTR, but he whines when I ask him to read the stories. I keep forgetting to write them out on the whiteboard. Everything's better on the whiteboard.

History: I didn't have him do.

Engineering: He built the same sample car that Brenden did, but he also built a ramp for the car to jump off of.

PE: Malcolm went to his tumbling class this week. He did much better at paying attention to his teacher and working hard. Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06544087621043452417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4924693455794826115.post-77461241403838655662015-10-12T16:17:00.001-07:002015-10-12T16:17:14.646-07:00Oct 5-Oct 9BRENDEN

Math: This week Brenden learned how to say large numbers (numbers in the thousands group). He also learned how to multiply with 3+ digits with regrouping.
English: Brenden did his copywork. In grammar he learned about the four different kinds of sentences (statements, commands, exclamations, and questions). In spelling he did a review of words from previous lessons. Here's a sample of his copywork.

History: In history we caught up on Johnny Tremain. This is going more slowly since I've started reading it aloud.
Engineering: Brenden built a linkages machine all by himself. It works by holding the wheel while using the black piece in the middle to trace something. Then you attach a pen to the third side and it copies what you traced. He didn't want to attach a pen when his initial efforts to stick one in didn't work.

French: I forgot to have Brenden work on his French this week.

MALCOLM
Math: Malcolm worked on skip counting by tens. This was a really easy lesson for him.
English: In English, we started reading the Paint Brush kid, which is the sequel to the Chalk Box Kid. It's about a boy and his friend who decide to help an elderly neighbor paint his house. Malcolm also worked on reading lessons. We're doing words with consonant blends (sp, bl, cl, fl, pl, etc) at the beginning. He's also working on writing.
History: In history, we learned about the first settlers. Around 10000 BC, most people were still hunters/gatherers, but occasionally a group would find a good supply of plants and fish and would settle in one area.
Engineering: I told Malcolm to pick a linkages project to work on while Brenden did his. He responded by picking a project from the most difficult book and trying to build that. He attempted to make a crane. He got the gear shaft and three gears working but that's about as far as he went. I forgot to get a picture.
PE: Malcolm went to his trampoline and tumbling class. He did well at paying attention and he's making progress with his cartwheels and jumps.

Math-This week Brenden's math lesson was on double digit multiplication with regrouping. He did well and got 100% on his test at the end of the week.
History-Brenden is learning about the events leading up to the revolution. He read about the Intolerable Acts and how the colonists responded. He read about Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence. He read about France and Spain's interest in helping the colonies and why they would want to help the colonists.
English-Most of this week's spelling lessons are on adding endings to words. In the lesson that added "ing" Brenden got most of the words wrong in the pretest, because he didn't double the ending consonant. He learned though, and is still making good progress. I've decided to read Johnny Tremain out loud to him. He's stopped writing in cursive though and will only grudgingly do it when I tell him.
French-Brenden did French three days this week. He got above 90% on all of the lessons
Engineering-I forgot to have the boys work on their engineering class.

MALCOLM

Math-Malcolm finished his lesson in adding tens. He did all the worksheets with no mistakes, even the ones that had review problems on them.
History-In history, we read Archaeologists Dig For Clues. He loved this book. He learned about why archaeologists dig, what sorts of things they find, and how they use all their clues to figure out what life was like. We also started Usborne Book of World History. He hates that book as much as he hated the Usborne Book of People of the World. He says it's boring. I don't know how to make it not boring.
English-This week we read The Chalk Box kid. It's about a kid who creates a chalk garden on the walls of an abandoned building. We also finished Charlotte's Web ahead of schedule because Malcolm kept wanting to hear more.
PE-This week Malcolm went to his tumbling and trampoline class. I gave him a talking to about not messing up on purpose, working hard, and listening to his teacher. He did better about not messing around. At home, I showed him a video of what a cartwheel is supposed to look like and he practiced it. He's doing much better with it now.

This week in math, Brenden took his test on rounding and estimating. He began a new lesson on double digit multiplication. The first day, he did all the steps properly, but said it was confusing, so we kept using the math blocks. The next day he said it made sense and by the end of the week he said it was easy.

In English, he worked on words with vowels+R. He also had to read a passage from literature, answered questions about it, and summarized it while I wrote down what he said. He also did his history reading. He's still reading a book about Benjamin Franklin and just started Johnny Tremain this week.

In history, Brenden read about the Stamp Act and the other taxes that the British government was imposing on the colonies. He learned how the colonists got so angry they dumped a bunch of tea in the Boston Harbor.

Brenden did French this week, but I'm not sure what he learned about. He does French in a room by himself while I work with Malcolm.

In engineering this week, the boys just played with the pieces from the kit. I don't think they made anything from the books, but they were experimenting on their own.

MALCOLM

This week, instead of doing the math practice sheets off the MUS website, Malcolm finished up his lesson on adding 10s. Brenden also had fun quizzing him in some easy multiplication problems. I don't know how Malcolm learned those, but he knows his 2x tables.

In English, Malcolm finished several reading lessons from OPGTR. The most important one from the week was learning to add "S" to the end of certain words to make them plural. We also read more from Charlotte's Web. We were supposed to start The Chalk Box kid, but he would not sit still, so we'll have to work on that next week.

In history, we finished reading the Usborne Book of Peoples of the World. This was Malcolm's least favorite book ever, so I tried to make it interesting and read quickly, but he just did not like it. He said it was boring. We learned about the major religions of the world. I doubt he'll remember them, but at least we have the book and he can reread it in the future if he needs.

In PE, Malcolm went to his tumbling and trampoline class. He's making some good progress, but sometimes he acts silly on purpose and wastes time.
