Weekly Review

Pigby doing a spelling test back in September.

This week we started our new All About Spelling curricula. We finished Steps 1 and 2. It's a good thing he loves spelling so much, otherwise I think he'd be bored because everything is so easy right now. We took two days to complete each step because his attention would start drifting in the middle of it and I'd ask if he wanted to do something else. This is probably because this is the first week we've really gotten to school since Christmas. First it was his birthday, then Digby was sick, then Pigby was sick, then I was sick.

In math we FINALLY got our MUS Alpha teacher's pack. So he watched the DVD on Friday. It is counting to 20. He has been so bored, so I told him we could skip all the pages in the lesson if he took the test and passed it. So he took the test and passed it. Now we can move on to lesson 3, which I think is another review.

For science, we got all our science books from his charter school. I don't exactly know why science scares me so much, but it does. Oh wait, I do know; it's because I'm so lazy. I'd rather read about things than actually get up and do it. So I need to start that next week. He did read through a lot of his books and found some experiments he wanted to do.

Completely missed grammar, which I'm ok with. We'll get back to that next week too. I was trying to ease back into school. I've also been trying to figure out how/when we'll get it done. Digby has been flip-flopping on taking his nap. Sometimes he'll fall asleep, sometimes he'll be quiet for a few minutes and then start screaming. TWTM suggests never giving up that quiet period when kids stop taking naps. But I'm not sure how to transition him to actually be quiet. The best way would be to have Pigby in there with him and have them listen to an audio book or something. I bet a few days of training and then I would have two hours all to myself. I could actually start working on dinner before 530! Oh the possibilities :)

  1. I let my ds10 choose his own science experiments out of the multitude of experiment books I have. And you reminded me, I forgot grammar this week! I think I need a quiet period...

  2. Science is so fun! Move up here, I'll teach him science if you'll teach mine math.

  3. Haha! I feel the same way about science. I outsourced it to Daddy - it's his favorite subject.

  4. Sounds like a good start back. I have no advice about the nap thing though!
