Weekly Report 9/8-9/12

Here's a list of all his subjects and what we're using for each one
English: Primary Language Lessons, All About Spelling, Dance Mat Typing, Start Write software for creating writing pages, and Book Shark for literature and poetry.
Math: Math U See
History: Book Shark, first part of American History
French: Rosetta Stone
Rocketry: Online course that we haven't really started yet. We also haven't received our kit yet.

We did cursive, PLL, history, typing, math, reading, spelling, French.

French was a little difficult for him at first. There aren't really directions of what they want you to do. Once we got that down, it became a lot easier. They start by showing you a word and then they start adding other words to it and you need to figure out which picture matches each word. This was also a struggle for him. It keeps track of how many mistakes you made and he made quite a few his first go round. So I made him repeat that lesson and he did much better at remembering the vocabulary. I think with consistency, he'll do better and better. His pronunciations are also getting better. I do have to correct a few (which is a little scary, since I don't know French, but I've learned enough from Corey to know there's a difference in "le, la, and les")

The rest of his subjects are going well. He's making progress. Sometimes it's a little difficult to get him to stop staring out the window when it's time to write, but he does a pretty good job with that. I'm trying a new schedule this year. 45 minutes of work, 15 minute break, repeat. Today, we managed to finish everything in four 45 minute sessions. I don't know why this schedule works so well, but it does. He has not whined about school once since we started (he used to whine about school every day). He seems to like the idea of looking forward to a break. If we school inside, he usually reads on his breaks. He's rereading Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief right now. If we do school outside, he'll either run around the yard or use the binoculars to search for birds.
