Some things we learned about throughout the week: In math, he finished up lesson 12. I've made the new rule that he has to do 2 pages of MUS first, then he can spend the rest of the 45 minutes on whichever math he wants (He chooses between Life of Fred, Challenging Word Problems, the pattern block book, Xtra Math, or the wrap ups.) I did this because he was wanting to spend ALL his math time on Life of Fred. Lesson twelve was the 3 times tables. He got a 95% on his lesson 12 math test; he only missed one problem. He started lesson 13, which is learning how to skip count by 6.

History: We are still learning about some of the explorers of the new world. We learned about Ponce de Leon exploring Florida and looking for the fountain of youth. We learned about Balboa and how he was the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from the isthmus of Panama. We learned about De Soto being the first European to see the Mississippi river. We learned about the Spanish establishing St. Augustine. We also learned about Henry Hudson and how he explored the Hudson river, then later the Hudson Bay. We learned about the Dutch establishing New Netherlands, then selling it to the English, who named it New York. We added lots of dates to our timeline and looked at all these places on our globe.

Spelling: We added three new tiles to our board: "ou, ar, and er". We didn't really use these at all for this week's lesson, but we did learn their sounds. This week's lesson was about making "VCE" words plural.

Grammar: We're still working on common nouns and proper nouns. We've also added pronouns to our list of nouns we're learning.
