Sept 14-18

Brenden

English-He continues to write everything except grammar in cursive. (His cursive takes up more space than the diagramming pictures allow, so I made him start doing that in manuscript). He continues to make progress in spelling. This week he did words with C or CK and then reviewed previous lessons. In grammar, he learned more about complete predicate and predicate adjectives.
History-I forgot to have him do history this week.
Math-This week's lesson was on rounding to 100s and 1000s places and then estimating. He struggled a bit at first, but by the end of the week, had it down perfectly.
French-We *finally* got Rosetta Stone working on the computer. It's still giving us a bit of a headache, but he got some lessons in. I believe he's working on review lessons since it's been awhile. I know on two lessons, he got an 85% and an 85%. I don't know about the others.
Engineering-We started working on linkages. The boys made extender rods. I forgot to take pictures, but the long pieces criss cross and connect. Then you open and close the ends and the whole thing lengthens and shortens.

MALCOLM
English-We continued reading Charlotte's Web. He is thoroughly enjoying it. He is continuing to make good progress in reading, although sometimes he now sees a long story at the end of the lesson and doesn't want to. I'm going to try writing the sentences on the white board and see if that helps.
History-This week we continued our Book Shark geography. We learned about some of the major religions around the world. We continued reading The Secret Valley and he learned more about the California gold rush. Living in a tent wasn't very fun. Working and panning for gold all day and not finding anything wasn't fun either.
Math-Malcolm is so pleased with his filled out addition chart that this week he had me print off a bunch of pages from MUS's online worksheet generator. He went through and did all the ones he knew. If he didn't know the answer, he looked it up on his chart.
PE-Malcolm went to his trampoline and tumbling class and had a lot of fun. They're still doing pretty much the same thing every week. Warm up/stretching, bouncing on a big trampoline, running and doing jumps off a little trampoline, handstands, round offs, bridges, rolls.
Engineering-We started working on linkages. The boys made extender rods. I forgot to take pictures, but the long pieces criss cross and connect. Then you open and close the ends and the whole thing lengthens and shortens. He thinks it's great for trying to pinch my nose.
