Sept 7-11

MONDAY
We did not get as much done as I'd wanted because of the holiday. Since Corey was home, he was working on the shed and I was spending most of my time helping him.

Brenden did two lessons of spelling in an effort to catch up. Lesson 17 was about words with "LE" at the end and lesson 18 was a review of words from lessons 13-17. In grammar, he did a review of parts of speech. He also learned what predicate nominatives are. This was new to me too, as I don't think I'd ever learned those in school.

TUESDAY
Today in math, Brenden went through and filled out the entire multiplication chart. Then he went through and did a bunch of review sheets from MUS. Then he wanted to watch the new lessons, so he watched the lesson 22 video and did sheets A-C. This lesson was about how to multiply multiple digits.

Then he spent the rest of the day reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Very bittersweet.

Today for reading lessons, Malcolm read words that have LF and LM blends at the end. In MUS, he wanted a chart like Brenden's to fill out, so I gave him an addition chart to fill out as he learns his facts.

WEDNESDAY
The kids had dentist appointments today. No cavities! Corey stayed home from work today too. I had to help him out in the shed again, so not much school work happened.

THURSDAY
In math, Brenden did sheets D-F. It was multiplying w/ multiple digits, plus review.

Both boys worked on their engineering class. They built weighted scales. They had a lot of fun. Malcolm could do more this week than he could last week.

FRIDAY
Today we took Corey to work, then headed to the library. After the library, Brenden had to go back to the dentist to get a sealant fixed. Then we headed up to the canyon to do nature study again. We caught bugs in a plastic cup. Well, the little two caught bugs. Brenden didn't want to catch any bugs.

Brenden did math. He finished his lesson 22 test and the Unit 3 test. In grammar, he reviewed linking verbs and predicate nominatives, then he practiced putting them all together with diagramming. He did a page of copywork. In spelling, he did lesson 20, which is words with CH and WH. He also did some of his history reading. We got behind on history, so he'll have to finish up over the weekend.

In math, Malcolm filled out more of his addition chart. He could do most of them in his head, even the ones we haven't covered yet. In reading lessons, he read more words that had consonant blends at the end. He pretty much didn't even need my help sounding them out the first time. He's starting to get very good. And he is starting to read words on signs and things everywhere we go. He's also behind in history, so we'll have to make that up over the weekend.

WEEKEND
Brenden finished his history reading. He's learning about Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. He's also learning about how the different colonies thought of the British rule. Not all colonies opposed British interference. Some did more than others.

We finished Malcolm's history reading. In geography, we learned about various cultures' different languages, money, clothing, and food. We also read more in Charlotte's Web and The Secret Valley. His favorite is Charlotte's Web. He's very good at giving a 1-2 sentence narration of what happened when we get to the end of the chapter.
