April 11-15

BRENDEN
Today in math, Brenden took his lesson 16 test. Lesson 16 was about doing division problems with remainders. Brenden got all those problems right, but he missed a few addition and subtraction problems.

In grammar, he reviewed how to diagram all four kinds of sentences. He also learned how to punctuate direct quotations at the beginning of sentences. He had to copy many of these kinds of sentences. In writing, he had to dictate a sentence with a direct quotation. In spelling, his list had "oo" words. He got them all correct on the pretest, except "goodness."

He did his history reading on his own. I'm not exactly sure what it was about. He also practiced his piano.

He didn't do French this week.

He didn't do engineering this week.

He had his SAGE test this week.

MALCOLM
In math, Malcolm started a new lesson. He's learning which addition facts add up to equal 10.

In reading lessons, he practiced words that have the long I sound. We also read the "Jabberwocky" poem. We're trying a sample of a new English curricula called "English Lessons Through Literature." For it, we read The Tale of Peter Rabbit and did a copywork sentence from it. Then we read an Aesop Fable, The Wolf and The Kid. Malcolm said both stories would be boring, but at the end, he loved them both.

In history, we read from the Usborne Time Traveler's Book about how the Ancient Egyptians used the Nile for farming. We also learned how they stored water to make sure they had enough to last all year. Malcolm keeps thinking he doesn't like history, because he didn't like one of the history books, but this one held his interest and he kept looking at all the pictures and asking a lot of questions.

He went to tumbling this week. Luckily my mom was here and able to take him, because Brenden and I were still at his SAGE test. I'm assuming his did his regular rotations.

He didn't do engineering this week.
