Dec 8-12

MONDAY
History-He read two chapters in Pocahontas and the Strangers. Pocahontas asked Captain John Smith about lots of things in Jamestown. He also read two chapters from Sign of the Beaver. In this book, Matt's dad left him alone in the wilderness. He took Matt's old gun with him and left Matt his rifle.

English-He got a new spelling list and he reviewed some of the spelling rules. His new list is more VCE words. He did a few words with the tiles on the whiteboard, but decided that it took to long to do it that way. So he just wrote them with a dry erase marker and when it was time to segment, he just pointed to the letters he was sounding out. Then I erased the words and he spelled them forwards and backwards.

In FLL, he reviewed the rules for pluralizing nouns. He learned the new rule of pluralizing words that end with "y". Some words need the y changed to an i and then add es. Some words just have an s added. He learned the difference between those words and practiced writing them out.

For typing, he tried practicing on Nitro Typing. He went really slow and had to keep looking at the keys. I think I'm going to try something new to see if there's something that can give more practice and instruction. He doesn't want to do Dance Mat again.

Math-It is totally a Monday as he's going super slow. At the rate he's going, he'll only finish the two MUS pages from lesson 11 and not even make it to CWP or Xtra Math. Maybe tomorrow he'll go quicker and get to those.

TUESDAY
We didn't really do school, because we were cleaning for Grandma's visit. Brenden and his siblings played outside for a couple of hours and then helped me clean.

WEDNESDAY
We didn't do much school today because we went to the airport to pick up Grandma. Grandma hasn't been out since Brenden was born and he hasn't seen her since he was less than a year old. Malcolm and Harper had never even met her, so we're focused on spending a lot of quality time with her. In the afternoon, Brenden went to science class.

THURSDAY
We didn't do much school today because I had an early morning dentist appointment. And then I had a luncheon for Corey's work Christmas party. The kids stayed home with Grandma, who supervised them doing their chores. She also helped everyone paint shirts for each kid, me and Corey, and herself. They thought it was great. Brenden and Grandma played a math game called, Math Dice. Grandma got it for Brenden and was very impressed with his math skills. They also played Clue and Grandma taught Brenden strategy and helped with the logic of playing the game.

FRIDAY
We didn't do much school today either. We didn't do formal schoolwork, but they did their chores. Grandma and Brenden played the math game and Clue again. Grandma also helped the kids make two loaves of cranberry-orange bread. She had to double her recipe and taught him how to multiply all the amount. She also taught him about fractions and how to use them for cooking. She said he did great and knew how to use his math for it.
