Aug 24-28

MONDAY
Malcolm did a page of math. He's learning how to skip count by twos. He did a reading lesson, where he's learning the consonant blends LP, LB, and LK. In handwriting, he practiced writing A and B.

Brenden was struggling with his math drill today. I don't know what to do about him to get him to memorize these better.

In English, he learned what helping verbs are and he practiced diagramming some sentences that had them. In spelling, he did a lesson with long E sounds. In writing, he did a dictation exercise. He also did a copywork page.

After lunch, he did his history reading. He's learning about William Penn. Penn and King Charles III were the founders of Pennsylvania.

TUESDAY

In grammar, Brenden learned more about proper nouns and helping verbs and how to diagram when both are in a sentence. He's still been writing everything in cursive. In writing, he read a passage about Paul Revere, the Sons of Liberty, and the Boston Tea Party and answered questions about them. Then he narrated a summary, I wrote it down, and he copied it. In spelling, he reviewed the words from lessons 7-11. The only word he had misspelled from those lessons was "easy" so he had to do a little extra practice. Other than that, he's doing well in spelling.

After lunch, he did his history reading.

Malcolm did a page of math. Still practicing skip counting by 2. He's also been having me read to him a lot. He practiced the letter C in handwriting.

WEDNESDAY
Today Brenden did his copywork in cursive. He's still writing everything in cursive. In spelling, he learned about words that have an L or R blend. He misspelled "truck" and "friend" so he had to do some extra practice. In writing, he did a dictation exercise using exclamation points at the end of the sentences. In grammar, he learned about direct objects and practiced a lot of diagramming with them.

He did his history reading after lunch.

I forgot to have Malcolm do school today because when I finished school with Brenden, Malcolm's Book Shark package came while I was making lunch. I was so excited and started pulling everything out and organizing it. I forgot to do school with Malcolm. But he's really excited about all the new books he got. I think he'll like it.
THURSDAY

FRIDAY
We brought all our school work with us and took Corey to work. Then we went up Provo Canyon to do some nature study. Then we went down to the Provo Library to do school in one of their study rooms.

He did Thursday's and Friday's history reading. In writing, he also did two days' worth of work. The first exercise was a narration. He read a story, answered some questions, gave me a summary, and watched as I wrote it down. The second exercise was a dictation exercise. It was a fairly long one and included a list and a proper noun. In spelling, he practiced words with S blends and got them all correct. In grammar, he learned to combine and diagram sentences with subjects, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and direct objects.

At the library, Malcolm did his MUS pages. Still practicing counting by 2. He did a line of D in handwriting. In reading, he learned words with ending blends of ST and NT.
