MONDAY
In math, Malcolm continued practicing counting by 2s. He also started the next lesson, which is adding tens. In OPGTR, he did another lesson will blends at the end of words. We also started his Book Shark history/English. In history, we're learning about various cultures of the world. Malcolm was pretty bored. We read one chapter of The Secret Valley. It's about a family that heads west to California in a wagon. He enjoyed that much better. We also started Charlotte's Web and he didn't want me to stop.

In math, we went back to the earlier lessons in MUS and reviewed the 0, 1, 2, 5, & 10 multiplication tables. He did an online drill.

In English, he did two grammar lessons to catch up from last week. One was a new poem called, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth. He also learned what complete subjects and predicates are and did lots of sentence diagramming practice. In spelling, he did two lessons, one with vowels + y and one with y as a vowel.  He did his copywork and his writing lesson and his history reading.

TUESDAY
Today the boys started creating their own comic books while I was in the shower. When I got out, they were still working hard on it. They were helping each other and working hard, I just didn't want to end it. Well, lo and behold, they literally worked on them all day long. While they both got lots of art work in, Brenden did a lot of writing in his (and it came with lots of spelling.

I read Malcolm's Book Shark stuff to him right before bed. We're learning more about cultures of the world. I read the second chapter of The Secret Valley, where the wagon company meets a group of Native Americans and trades with them. In chapter 3 of Charlotte's Web, the goose convinced Wilbur to escape his pen and run around.

WEDNESDAY
The break from routine yesterday really threw me off for the rest of the week. On Wednesday, they were begging to break open their new engineering kits from My Tech High. Fine, twist my arm. Again. Malcolm got frustrated with the difficulty of the connections and quit before his see saw was fully built. I finished building it for him. Then he did some experimentation by adding weights to each side and seeing what would happen. Brenden did his see saw completely on his own. I was very proud of him. It was difficult, but he kept going. He's often the one who quits first when things get difficult. This was a good project for him.

THURSDAY
On Thursday, a friend invited us to go to the splash pad with her and her kids. We went and the kids had a blast. I literally cannot remember what happened the rest of the day.

FRIDAY
On Friday, we had to take Corey up to work, then come back down to wait for the washing machine repairman. He ended up coming early and not being here too long, so we packed our bags and headed back up to Provo to go to the mountains. We did a lot of nature study, observing what was around us and searching for seeds. There aren't too many seeds now, we had a hard time finding the few we did. We found a couple dandelions that had gone to seed and we found a few maple seeds on the ground. We sketched them in our nature notebooks. Malcolm and Harper wanted to spend most of their time at the stream. There were some men up there who found a tiny snake. They asked if they could show the kids, so the kids went and looked. They thought it was really cool when the snake went back and swam in the water. Then it hid in a bush. The men were impressed that the kids had seen a snake before that wasn't on TV. We have a couple that hang out in our backyard. The men explained to them how to tell if a snake is venomous (it has a triangular head) or not (it has a straight and narrow head.)

We ate lunch, then went to the library. We only had about half an hour, so Brenden did some of his history reading. We picked out books, then headed to Malcolm's tumbling class. He did well and had a lot of fun.
